Against the common perception of many people, it seems that Agile teams are more likely to model than traditional teams, according to this survey by Scott Ambler . You can see this in the following figure (SBMT stands for software-based modeling tools ) that shows that the black bar, the one that indicates that the team isn’t modeling at all, is much smaller for agile teams than it is for traditional teams:

You can read his interpreation OF the results but maybe they shouldn’t be so surprising. In fact, some agilists already adapted modeling practices to the agile philosophy (in the same way they did that with programming practices) so that they could use modeling techniques in agile development processes, see, for instance agile modeling and agile model driven development .
