We have discussed before in this blog the benefits of modeling and everybody seems to agree that those benefits depend on a number of factors as the kind project and the size/skills of the development team.
Therefore, I was curious to see the role of modeling in a very specific kind of software development companies: Micro-ISV (o mISV), where ISV stands for Independent Software Vendor. I could not think of a better place to ask this question than the business of software community where (whether planned or not) most of the members run their own mISV.
The feedback has been quite good (given my low expectations) and more or less the opinions coincide with the trends of surveys about the use of modeling: 1 – modeling is informally used in the early stages and later on abandoned and 2 – only class diagrams (and sometimes sequence diagrams) are found useful.
