Where do researchers hang out online?

I was interested in discussing our strategy for the industrialization of research tools with fellow researchers but I just realized I don’t know WHERE TO find them online.

I usually promote the posts I think interesting IN places LIKE Dzone (even if the long term effect IS very limited I usually GET SOME nice feedback) AND, OF course, I know how TO reach research communities CLOSE TO my research area but the problem OF developing high-quality research tool that may have a REAL impact IN the software community IS relevant TO most researchers IN software engineering NOT ONLY modeling OR MDD guys LIKE myself. AI OR Computer Vision research groups should also be worried about this, shouldn’t them?

So, Is there any online community where researchers in software engineering hang out online? Where do people discuss general-interest research problems?

I’m assuming that such online site EXISTS AND that I just don’t know where to find it but if not I think it would be worth to have it. In fact, there was an attempt to create a Software Engineering Research 2.0 initiative (pursuing more collaborative research approaches) but I think the initiative is quite terminal right now (the page is not even working that’s why I’m not linking it).

Jordi, this was the site you referred to, right? Regarding the scope/topics, planet research 2.0 is quite closely related to your blog.

Among others, the last transformation tool contest (TTC 2010) had successfully been hosted there (http://planet-research20.org/ttc2010/).

To me Planet Research is more a meta-portal devoted to host/link other modeling events (like the TTC conference you mentioned) than a portal itself. As you can see, for whatever reason, the portal is not frequently updated and, to be honest, I don´t feel a growing participation in it. Hopefully, they will be able to redirect the situation in the future.

After a suggestion from Ed Seidewitz I´m now trying Research Gate (in their own words: “a scientific network that connects researchers”)

However, this community does not seem to be very populated right now :-(
