Software directories not ready for SaaS

Have you ever tried to add your online software service to one of the many existing software directories (see this directory of software directories ) in the web?

Let me tell you, it is a frustrating experience and in most cases a task impossible to achieve since they all assume that your tool is a zip file that users can download and install in their computer. Their forms are not yet ready to register and list software implemented as an online service (SaaS) even though SaaS is everyday more and more popular (this was one of the conclusions of our survey of software project management tools ). Is it that difficult to create a directory of software services? (if it already exists can you please point me to it? Thanks)

A completely different question is whether I should be worried not to be able to list my services in those software directories. I don’t think I’ve ever used any of them to find a tool. Do you? Maybe software directories are not that useful after all? What’s your experience?
