Red Koda tool – Finish UML diagrams faster

One of the main complaints about graphical modeling notations is the poor usability of many of the modeling environments (argument used by proponents of textual modeling notations to claim that productivity with their tools is higher).

The Red Koda UML tool tries to reduce the “number of clicks per model drawing” ratio by supporting short-cut keys and auto resize features. As they say, their goal is “We want users to focus on building models and not on manipulating the elements on the diagrams. As a result, they will be able to finish UML diagrams faster and faster”. (thanks to @reboltutorial for the link)

Good to see that some tools start to consider usability as an important property!!

In these days I am going to publish my PhD thesis with the title “Exploiting Hypergraph Grammars for the Realization of Syntax-based User Assistance in Diagram Editors”.

It describes a meta-level approach where the syntax specification of a language is used twice, i.e., for checking and for establishing correctness of a diagram. The most prominent example editor with assistance I have specified so far is for business process models. Have a look at the screencast and the paper given at this site:
