Johan den Hann/ Mendix (“no code just glory” MDD tool) interview highlights

For the lazy (or busy) ones, some highlights of the interview ( you can also read the full interview or access all previous interviews ):

  • Current MDD tools are oriented to developers but one of the main benefits of MDD can be, if you create the right tool, that domain experts become involved in development projects.
  • With our tool business engineers can model the application and add customer value.
  • We use visual models because they are easier to grasp for non-technical people.
  • Application specification is split in several models, each one written in a specific DSL.
  • Each DSL is small with 3 to 5 main concepts each
  • We don’t generate code. The model is stored in a model repository which is then read by the runtime environment that interprets the model.
  • People do not need to know anything about software development to build an application. It’s just one click deploy.
  • Soon you will be able to directly deploy your model from your modeling environment in the mendix cloud.
  • In aprox. 95% of the tests, we were as fast as native Java code
  • The bare minimum models are the domain model and the GUI model.
