It’s obvious that JavaScript is becoming the default language of choice for many (most?) new web-based software projects both on the server side and the front-end side.
What it may not be so evident is that JavaScript is quickly taking an important role in older/existing projects shaping the way these projects evolve.
In this post, we take a look at WordPress (still defined as a PHP-based software , we may need to update that definition soon) and give some data to highlight the increasing role JavaScript plays in it. You may be surprised by what you’ll see there.

It seems that if you want to call yourself a WordPress Developer , you may want to start learning a little bit of JavaScript apart from PHP.

Maybe, in a not so distant future, you may JUST need to learn JavaScript to call yourself a WordPress Developer. We’re still far away but with the REST API and the like, this may indeed happen at some point
