Physical Mobile Workflows

LAST week I had the honor TO be part OF the jury that evaluated the PhD Thesis OF Pau Giner ON
Automatic the Development OF Physical Mobile Workflows” using a model-driven approach.

Roughly speaking, Physical mobile workflows are enhanced business processes that may include as workflow activities tasks resulting from the interaction of mobile devices with the physical environment.

Integrating MDD with Goal-oriented Requirements Engineering methods

During my 2-YEAR postdoc IN Toronto, I did SOME WORK WITH Eric Yu about the integration OF GORE (Goal-Oriented Requirements Engineering) AND model-driven development methods.

The Model Transformation Jungle – Master Thesis by Philipp Huber

I’ve just FOUND an interesting Master Thesis by Philipp Huber that evaluates AND compares several model transformation approaches AND tools. A summary poster WITH the main findings can be FOUND here . There IS even a simple tool that tries TO recommend a specific LANGUAGE depending ON your requirements.

Model-driven vs Model-started development processes

Rafael Chaves has just posted a new entry IN his blog talking about the “Myths that give model-driven development a bad name”.

OMG initiatives in the health domain

IT news online reports about the collaboration between the OMG (Object Management Group) and HL7 (Health Level Seven International) in order to develop new standards for the healthcare industry.

As Richard Soley (chairman of the OMG) summarizes:

Survey of Model-Based Systems Engineering Methodologies

Antonio Vallecillo sends me a link TO a “Survey of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Methodologies”

The purpose OF this report IS TO provide a cursory description OF SOME OF the LEADING Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies used IN industry today. A MBSE methodology can be characterized AS the collection OF related processes, methods, AND tools used TO support the discipline OF systems engineering IN a “modelbased”

Robert L. Glass on Forgotten fundamental facts about Software Engineering

Very interesting article by Robert L. Glass about the Frequently Forgotten Fundamental Facts about Software Engineering , a collection OF vital facts that we should keep IN mind WHEN developing software.

What we actually know about software development by Greg Wilson

Today seems to be “the recommendation day”. For those of you that do not follow (yet) Greg Wilson’s I’d like to recommend Greg’s presentation “Bits of evidence: What we actually know about software development and why we believe it’s true” WHERE he discusses the low standards FOR proof IN software engineering (too many claims without ANY kind OF empirical validation) AND how we can start addressing this situation.

Don’t miss Johan den Haan series OF posts ON basic concepts OF MDD

Johan den Haan has a very interesting blog ON MDE topics. Recently he has been publishing a series OF posts ON basic model-driven development principles/misperceptions/challenges that I’d like to recommend you. Take a look at my selection of posts (useful specially if you are new in the area of MDE):

(Re)discovering the business rules manifesto

I recently (re)discovered the Business Rules Manifesto that states the importance OF business rules AND how they should be defined/processed.

SOME OF my favourite articles IN the manifesto:

  • Rules ARE a FIRST-class citizen OF the requirements world.
  • Rules must be explicit. NO rule IS ever assumed about ANY concept OR fact.
  • Rules should be expressed declaratively IN NATURAL-LANGUAGE sentences FOR the business audience.
