Unbelivable software modeling patents
Some time ago, Johan den Haan pointed out that "MDA had been patented" . Indeed, if you read the description of this patent, they use the notions of platform-independent and platform-specific "components" and the idea that platform-specific components could be generated from the platform-independent ones. Sounds familiar? (and, by the way, the patent is from 2009 much later than these concepts were included in the MDA OMG standard)

Anybody remembers the UML Diagram Interchange format?
One of the reasons that have motivated the WebUML initiative (commented here ) is the problem of exchanging UML models among different modeling tools.

SBVR and BMM metamodels added to the AtlanMod Zoo of metamodel samples
Guillaume Doux has added the SBVR (Semantics of Business Vocabulary and Business Rules) and BMM (Business Motivation Model) metamodels to the AtlanMod Zoos of metamodels (a very short explanation of what this is here ).

UML samples out there?
We recently mentioned a free library of database model samples . However, it seems (given the poor response to this stack overflow question that it is impossible to find something similar for several kinds of UML models.
Free library of data/domain models
Looking for examples of data models? Needing inspiration to start a static model for your application domain?
Check this free library of more than 600 kick-start data models and you may get lucky and find what you need.
Models are mainly defined using the Entity-Relationship notation (first and preferred notation for database modelers) but if you know UML you shouldn't have many problems in understanding the ER notation.
