Not a programmer, still a Developer

It doesn’t seem TO be a consensus IN the community regarding the meaning OF the words programmer AND developer so I feel free TO give my opinion ON this.

Going on in the modeling forum

A discussion ON the best tools FOR Executable UML , FOR UML editing IN a MAC AND the relationship BETWEEN IEEE 830 & Model Theory

My new “research rants” blog

Sometimes I feel the need to explain (non-technical) situations I face in my daily research activity. Since most of them would not fit the goals of this modeling portal I’ve decided TO CREATE a blog FOR ALL my research rants , ( because research IS NOT ONLY a passion but also a job AND AS ALL jobs, it sometimes sucks!)

Anonymous functions in OCL

One of the topics that came out of the last OCL workshop (summary here ) was the possibility of adding anonymous functions (Lambda expressions) to the OCL.

Where do researchers hang out online?

I was interested IN discussing our strategy FOR the industrialization OF research tools WITH fellow researchers but I just realized I don’t know where to find them online.

Industrialization of research tools: the ATL case

(CROSS-posted ON the “my research rants” blog)

Bill Gates says that better software modeling IS the solution

to many hard problems, from using nuclear power to combating diseases. He also said that it´s surprising that there’s NO disease-modeling software AND, MORE importantly, he aims TO make sure that gap IS filled, supporting development OF the tools needed TO do such modeling.

Gates plans TO offer up the modeling software package FOR free FOR others TO use. He conceded that the models never GET things RIGHT exactly, but he said, “You are a hundred times smarter doing it that way than just going out there (without such models).”

Executable models vs code-generation vs model interpretation

There seems TO be SOME confusion about the relationship BETWEEN these three concepts: executable models, code-generation AND model interpretation.

An executable model IS a model complete enough TO be executable. I´m fully aware that this definition IS kind OF useless but the executability OF a model depends MORE ON the execution tool we use than ON the model itself (e.g. SOME tools may require a MORE complete AND precise model specification while others may be able TO “fill the gaps” AND EXECUTE MORE incomplete models).

Experts: UML is active, but the buzz is lost (on SD times)

Nice article ON SD Times magazine WHERE software experts comment ON the fact that UML IS still active but has lost part OF the buzz that it previously had.

List of bloggers on MDE topics

Xavier Seignard has posted a list of all MDE bloggers he follows. The list looks quite complete (of course you should add him to the list!)

Remember that my own selected selection of bloggers on MDE (or software engineering in general) is available here
